It was collaboration among leading regional sponsors with the Aspen institute. The basic objective of the project was development of a new generation of leaders who will have great community spirit. Target countries for them were the Middle East and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Leadership training in the Middle East has now taken a new dimension with similar projects coming up at regular intervals.
How the Leadership Development Programs Work

Eligibility Criteria for Participation
There are specific eligibility criteria for participation of the trainees in the leadership training program. It is necessary that such participants have already achieved success in their respective fields of operation and have demonstrated their leadership capabilities. They also need to come from diverse backgrounds as determined on the basis of occupation, political affiliations, ethnicities, religion, industries, and gender specifications.

Course curriculum in MELI is 18 months duration and such course is specifically designed for them. The curriculum includes four seminars with each of them covering 5-6 days. Every participant is also required to submit a leadership project of own design and choice. Among these seminars the first, second, and fourth are regional in nature while the third is usually held in United States, Africa, Central America, Middle East or in India.
